BIMP-EAGA 2025: Davao City Hosts ASEAN Growth Summit (2025)

Davao City is set to become the focal point of regional collaboration as it hosts the upcoming 33rd Senior Officials’ Meeting along with the 28th Ministerial Gathering of the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) from Tuesday through Thursday. But here’s where it gets interesting — this isn’t just about formal talks; it’s a strategic convergence aimed at shaping the future of regional development.

According to Leo Tereso Magno, the Secretary of the Mindanao Development Authority, this event will gather government officials and private sector leaders to evaluate how far BIMP-EAGA has come and to chart the course forward towards the Vision 2035 goal. Participants will delve into the progress of ongoing initiatives, tackle challenges encountered along the way, and outline key strategies for prioritized programs essential to regional growth.

Magno, who will serve as the Philippines’ Signing Minister at the meetings, highlighted Mindanao’s eagerness to take on a leadership role in fostering regional cooperation. He emphasized that this isn’t merely about showcasing local products; it’s an opportunity to demonstrate the region’s capacity, confidence, and unwavering dedication to regional progress.

He reaffirmed the Philippines’ pledge to deepen BIMP-EAGA collaborations, aligning with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directives to position Mindanao as a central engine of regional integration. And this is the part most people miss — the event also acts as a launchpad for broader economic and tourism exchanges.

As a warm-up to the ministerial discussions, the BIMP-EAGA Trade and Tourism Fair kicks off on Sunday afternoon, running until November 11. This fair offers a chance for stakeholders to explore new trade opportunities, promote tourism, and foster closer ties among member economies. So, while the official meetings are a significant milestone, the real excitement lies in how these interactions can spark tangible growth and cooperation across the region.
