The SAWES S2000, as identified by the Global Times, is the brainchild of Linyi Yunchuan in partnership with Tsinghua University and the Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It's the world's first megawatt-class high-altitude wind power system designed for urban deployment, with a maximum power output of approximately 3 megawatts.

During its test flight, the S2000 remained airborne for a brief 30 minutes, generating 385 kilowatt-hours of electricity and reaching an altitude of around 6,500 feet. This achievement is a significant milestone, as it successfully connected to the local power grid, marking a world first for AWTs.

The Power of High-Altitude Wind

Dun Tianrui, the chief designer of the system, revealed that one hour of operation at the current output level can generate enough electricity to fully charge approximately 30 top-spec electric vehicles from zero to full. The S2000's compact design allows for easy transportation and storage in shipping containers, with inflation taking just eight hours.

AWTs function similarly to airships, remaining relatively static and lifting lightweight turbine-generators into high-altitude wind streams.
