Galaxy S25 Ultra vs Pixel 10 Pro XL vs OnePlus 15: 8K Video Camera Test & Comparison (2026)

The world of smartphone videography is evolving, and 8K resolution is the new battleground. I decided to pit three Android giants against each other: the Galaxy S25 Ultra, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and OnePlus 15, all capable of 8K recording. But does it really make a difference? And how do they fare against the iPhone 17 Pro, which maxes out at 4K?

The Experiment: I captured two videos with the S25 Ultra and OnePlus 15—one at 4K 30fps and another at 8K 30fps. The Pixel 10 Pro XL, however, required a unique approach. Its Video Boost mode is the only way to unlock 8K, but it's a lengthy process involving cloud processing. For the iPhone, I recorded the same scenes at 4K 30fps for a side-by-side comparison.

Galaxy S25 Ultra: It's not just about sharpness. The 8K footage showcases improved dynamic range, exposing shadowed areas better and creating a more uniform look. When zooming in on details, like a billboard, the 8K capture reveals slightly more definition, especially in smaller elements.

OnePlus 15: Interestingly, the 8K video has a bit more contrast, making shadowed areas darker. This results in better-defined edges in text, but it's a subtle improvement. The 4K footage still holds its own in terms of detail.

Pixel 10 Pro XL: While it has impressive AI editing tools, 8K recording is a hassle. Video Boost takes over an hour to process a 15-second clip. The 8K footage does enhance fine details, but it's a close call, and you'd need to scrutinize to notice the difference on a phone screen.

iPhone 17 Pro: Apple sticks to 4K, and it's impressive. The dynamic range is excellent, and the footage is bright. But when heavily cropped, details start to blur, unlike its 8K competitors. The Galaxy S25 Ultra maintains the sharpest details, while the Pixel 10 Pro XL's processing is noticeable.

The Verdict: 8K recording offers a slight edge in detail and dynamic range. While it's not a massive leap, it gives editors more flexibility. The iPhone's absence of 8K isn't a deal-breaker yet, but as 4K TVs become standard, the demand for higher resolutions will grow. For now, the Android trio provides a glimpse into the future of smartphone videography, but it's a subtle evolution, not a revolution.
