Startling political fire hits The View: a MAGA clash that spotlights internal infighting. On Tuesday, conservative guest Elisabeth Hasselbeck launched a pointed critique at Megyn Kelly, her former Fox News colleague, as the panel debated the Trump administration’s strikes on Iran and the ensuing death of six U.S. service members.
The show aired a clip of Kelly’s remarks, in which she said, “My own feeling is no one should have to die for a foreign country.” Responding to reports that put the death toll at four, Kelly added, “I don’t think those four service members died for the United States. I think they died for Iran or for Israel.” These comments triggered a fierce reaction from Hasselbeck, who challenged the notion on air and made it clear she was ready to spar with Kelly.
Looking straight into the camera, Hasselbeck asked, “How dare you tell a military person who has sacrificed their lives for our nation, in our uniform, when they are sacrificing their lives in our uniform—how dare you tell them or their families or our nation what they died for?” Joy Behar nudged in, warning, “Oh, you better be careful. She’ll come right at you.” Hasselbeck shot back, “I’m not afraid of her.”
She continued, underscoring the central point: “My heart, my friends in the military—you do not get to authorize who they died for. Let me just clear that up.” She admitted her political identity—“I come here. I may vote Republican, and I’m a conservative, but I’m a thinking woman, and I have a heart, with this war. Or military attack.”
Hasselbeck is among several rotating conservatives filling in for Alyssa Farah Griffin during maternity leave. She previously co-hosted The View for nearly a decade before being let go in 2013, with reports at the time suggesting market research found her views too conservative for the show’s audience.
After leaving The View, Hasselbeck joined Fox & Friends, co-hosting from 2013 to 2015, overlapping briefly with Kelly, who headed The Kelly File during much of that period. Although they shared the Fox platform for years, their on-air rapport soured on Tuesday.
Since then, Hasselbeck has maintained a public, often heated, exchange with The View and its personalities, including online jabs at Rosie O’Donnell. She returned as a guest co-host this week, beginning with a cordial tone toward her colleagues but not shying away from contention, particularly around allegations involving Donald Trump and the Epstein materials.
During the discussion, Behar remarked, “Elisabeth, I think this has backfired on Trump.” Hasselbeck countered, “I don’t think so. I think you want it to, but I don’t think it has.” Sunny Hostin pressed for Trump testimony, prompting Hasselbeck’s familiar readiness: “I would love to hear anyone who needs to testify, testify.”
