Get ready for an unforgettable Lunar New Year celebration at Disney California Adventure in 2026, where beloved characters are stepping out in stunning cultural attire! But here's where it gets exciting: you'll have the chance to meet some of your favorite pals like never before, and some are making their grand debut in a very special form.
The Lunar New Year 2026 event, running from January 23rd to February 22nd, 2026, promises a vibrant tribute to Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese cultures. This festive period is a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in the magic of Disney while celebrating the Year of the Horse. And the best part? It's all included with your park admission, though some special experiences might come with an extra charge.
A Star-Studded Lineup of Character Encounters!
This year's celebration boasts an incredible roster of characters, each dressed to impress and ready to make your Lunar New Year extra special. Here's who you can expect to see:
Panda Mei: This is a monumental occasion! For the very first time, guests will have the chance to meet Mei in her full, magnificent red panda form at the Pixar Pier Bandshell. Previously, during Lunar New Year celebrations, attendees met a half-transformed Meilin Lee alongside her mother. For those eager to capture a memento, please note that Mei will not be signing autographs during these meet-and-greets. Remember, Meilin Lee, the spirited protagonist from Turning Red, transforms into her giant red panda alter ego when overcome by strong emotions – a truly heartwarming sight!
Horace Horsecollar: Heading over to Grizzly Peak, you'll find Horace Horsecollar, a character with a rich Disney history dating back to 1929. He was a loyal sidekick to Mickey Mouse in the early days of black-and-white animation, even taking center stage in classic shorts like The Beach Party (1931) and Camping Out (1934). More recently, he's graced our screens in Mickey Mouse shorts and Mickey and the Roadster Racers. For this special occasion, Horace is sporting a charming Chinese-style red tunic adorned with gold trim and intricate cloud designs. He also wears a jade necklace, a symbol traditionally associated with luck, protection, and prosperity.
Mickey & Minnie: You can find these iconic sweethearts near Paradise Garden Grill, dressed in elegant Korean-inspired outfits. Mickey is looking dapper in a blue baeja and baji, while Minnie shines in a striped jeogori and a lovely pink chima. Both are completing their traditional Korean ensembles with classic footwear.
Donald & Daisy: Over at Grizzly Peak, Donald and Daisy are embracing the Lunar New Year spirit in vibrant red Chinese-inspired hanfu styles. Their outfits echo the elegance of Horace Horsecollar's attire, featuring dazzling gold metallic and cloud embroidery, along with traditional pankou knot closures. Daisy adds a sweet touch with a beautiful flower accent on her bow.
But here's where it gets a little tricky for planning: Donald and Daisy meet guests on alternating days with Goofy and Clarabelle. If you're hoping to catch Donald and Daisy, mark your calendars for Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
- Goofy & Clarabelle: Also greeting guests at Grizzly Peak are Goofy and Clarabelle, looking radiant in Vietnamese-inspired aó dài outfits. Goofy's ensemble is a striking green adorned with motifs of ancient coins, while Clarabelle looks lovely in pink. She's accessorized her outfit with a beautiful jade bracelet.
And this is the part most people miss: Goofy and Clarabelle are the characters you'll want to see on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. They start their day meeting guests together for their first two sets, and then switch to individual meet-and-greets for the remainder of the day.
The Year of the Horse is set to be a spectacular celebration of culture and beloved characters. Which of these specially dressed pals are you most excited to meet? Let us know on social media! We'd love to hear if you'll be attending and who you're hoping to see!
