MMDA Warns Against Misleading Flood Videos During Typhoon Uwan
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is urging the public to be cautious of old, misleading flood videos circulating online during the recent Typhoon Uwan (international name: Fung-Wong). In a Facebook post, the MMDA clarified that no major flooding had been reported in Metro Manila, according to its Emergency Operations Center.
"It's crucial to verify every post or share on social media. Don't fall for fake news or misinformation," the MMDA advised. The agency reminded netizens to check the date and time of online posts and verify information through official government pages or credible news outlets before reposting or commenting.
MMDA also warned that spreading outdated or false content could cause unnecessary panic and confusion during critical weather situations. As of 8 a.m. Monday, a yellow heavy rainfall warning remained in effect over Metro Manila due to the storm, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.
