Nicholas Hoult & Daisy Edgar-Jones in 'Mosquito' Comedy Series! Disney+ & Hulu (2025)

Get ready for some romantic chaos — and a mosquito that just won’t mind its business. Nicholas Hoult and Daisy Edgar-Jones are teaming up for a brand-new Disney+ comedy series titled Mosquito, a sharp and hilarious look at the modern relationship that’s bound to get everyone talking. But here’s where it gets controversial — it all starts with one tiny insect that ends up exposing some very human flaws.

From writer and producer Tony McNamara, the brilliant mind behind The Great and Poor Things, this six-part series dives deep into the quirks, secrets, and absurdities of a young marriage. Hoult and Edgar-Jones, two breakout stars from the U.K., are on a roll — fresh from Hoult’s turn in Superman and Edgar-Jones’ headline-making role in Twisters. This time, they play Ed and Kate, a newly married couple whose seemingly perfect life begins to unravel thanks to — yes — a mosquito that’s just a little too curious.

McNamara, known for his razor-sharp wit and love of the surreal, expressed his excitement: “It’s a thrill to bring these two incredible talents together. I can’t wait to dive into something ridiculous, raw, and funny with them.” Anyone familiar with McNamara’s previous work knows that “absurd comedy” usually masks something much deeper — a biting exploration of love, hypocrisy, and human nature.

Disney Television president Eric Schrier and Angela Jain, Disney+’s head of content for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, praised McNamara’s distinctive storytelling. In their joint statement, they called him one of today’s strongest creative voices, lauding his ability to blend biting humor, emotional depth, and complex dialogue. They added that Mosquito marks a bold step forward for Disney’s growing slate of U.K. original productions, underscoring their ambition to deliver smart, unconventional stories with international appeal.

The project also marks a reunion for McNamara and Hoult, who last collaborated on The Great for Hulu. That connection alone has fans buzzing with anticipation. Produced by 20th Television, Piggy Ate Roast Beef Productions, and Hustle & Punch, the series also enlists Marian Macgowan, Tracy Underwood, and Daniel Pipski as executive producers alongside McNamara, Hoult, and Edgar-Jones. Commissioning duties were led by Lee Mason, executive director of scripted content for The Walt Disney Company EMEA.

Filming for Mosquito officially begins in 2026, with global streaming planned for Disney+ and Hulu. Given McNamara’s track record of turning strange premises into critical hits, expectations are high. A mosquito as the symbol of marital breakdown — genius or just plain strange?

What do you think — could Mosquito redefine what we expect from relationship comedies, or is this idea just too weird to land? Let the debate begin in the comments.
